I was so shocked and saddened with the news of Robin Williams death couple of days ago. I am still wondering how is it possible that he took his own life? Such a warm, caring, funny, witty, successful, famous and loved person; as Robin Williams!
We do not know the details of his personal life. What we do know is that he had quit substance and alcohol abuse, but then relapsed into alcohol abuse; and that he had been struggling with depression. But why?
Many people ask the same question, and like Danny Baker I was really concerned that Robin’s death might trigger more depressive thoughts for some; thinking “If Robin Williams, with all the money and resources he had at his disposal, wasn’t able to recover from depression, then what hope do I have?”. That is why I am reblogging this post to ensure those people that there is always hope and there are ways you can help yourself.
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP YOU RECOVER: Seek treatment.
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP YOU RECOVER: Commit yourself to your treatment.
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP YOU RECOVER: Keep searching to find a treatment that works. If one doesn’t, try another.
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP YOU RECOVER: Lay off the drugs and alcohol.
And remember you have a choice.
One person’s plight with depression – even if that person is a celebrity that we all know and love – has no relevance to your own plight with depression.
Just because Robin Williams didn’t manage to recover, it absolutely does not mean that you also won’t.
Just seek the right help, and never, ever, ever, ever, ever give up, and you can do it.
I promise you.
